Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

I read reviews prior to buying. Bought after determining the reviews. Boy, I wish I could have tested prior! The weights are horrible. The adjustable switches work about 25% of the time on one dumbell and never on the other. one dumbell is actaully off by 5 lbs when you finally do get to adjust it! Most everytime I go to pick them off the stand, another plate extra comes and falls off almost hItting my toes! Very leary about overhead presses or anything for the fear they may fall on me when doing excercises. I only bought b/c i am on 2 mont vacation and no gyms nearby. I am bring back when i return from vacation. Holy wow. spend the extra and go with the better buy, which i wish i would have. these are NOT SAFE. my wife who was going to use them as well, i will not let, do not trust them! i am a bodybuilder and have seen alot of options. these by far the worse i have ever used!

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

This was a great product in my opinion. Try to buy from the store as if you buy on-line and have a problem, you have to ship it back and the store will not accept it (just a policy and this discouraged me from ordering their treadmill on-line.) You have a complete basic dumbbell set from 10 pounds all the way to 50 pounds per dumbbell. It is a little large, but not too bad if you are used to bigger sized dumbbells. I was looking at the Bowflex ones but the weights were way too expensive for what I wanted to pay and the sales associate showed me these. The bowflex stand was $199 alone!! I paid [$] for these and they came with the stand.I read reviews on this and noted that the weights were difficult to change out. At first, they do stick and are a little aggravating and takes some practice getting the weights back in. I have used mine for about a week and already they have loosened up and are easier to get back into the slots just fine. The possibilities are unlimited with these. You can use the 10 pounds (just the dumbbell) on a treadmill or for youth workouts (which could be used for 20+ years), up to a full blown workout! This set is exactly what I was looking for and could not be happier except just getting the weights to change easier out of the box instead of fixing itself with use.I thought at first the weights would fall out on my face when doing dumbbell presses or flyes, but now, no worries!Just AWESOME!!

OK They are a bit quirky but extremely useful. I lightly coated all the working surfaces with liquid wrench with graphite. You do have to be careful but for the money you can't beat them. I used to own a set of power blocks but I didn't like them as much. It takes a second or two to make sure you got it right but with practice it gets better. Bottom line: They are an excellent deal. I'm keeping mine.

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

Like other people have noted, it can be dang near impossible to get the sliders to select the correct weight. Then when you get it to land on the weigh you want, it pulls up an extra plate on one side! This is only true for the weights with the ORANGE slider. I was sold these at a Dick's store and got one with a Red slider and one with an Orange slider. The Red slider worked great, the orange one sucked hard. I took that one back and got another one with the Red slider. On the box the dates they were made were different and so were the serial numbers. The Date for the Orange Slider one was 9/x/2007 and the date for the Red was 11/x/2007. The serial on the Orange ended in "B" and the red ended in "C". So, in short, the orange slider based ones don't work, the red ones work great.

I went to (What a riot! I can't use the name of this store as "it may be considered profanity") to buy the Bowflex Selectechs but here's what I found when I got there: The Bowflex Selectechs were broken and the sales rep told me they broke the second day they were put on display and they have been waiting 2 months for Bowflex to remedy the situation. These Weiders were on display right next to the Bowflex and they worked flawlessly. Sales rep told me they'd been on display since Thanksgiving or so and they couldn't keep them in stock. These Weiders include the stands, unlike the Bowflex, and are [$] less ([$] less than the Bowflex with the stands). The weight is accurate - I tested by weighing myself with and without the weights at various settings.I've been using these for about a month now and am very happy with them.

Save Your Money and Get a Bowflex

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

This a poorly engineered set. The plates do not release very well and you run the risk of dropping them on your feet or damaging your floor. They are bulky and cumbersome. Save your money and buy the Bowflex. They are well engineered and less bulky.

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

I work out in my garage where I set up a small gym. That being said space is at a premium. This product will allow you to have a pretty complete set of dumbells in a 2'x2' area! The grips are a little too thick for my liking and the adjustment tab sticks from time to time, but overall a very good product at a very competitive price.

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

The plates are irregular and the locking mechanism doesn't work well (plates have dropped out).It is a struggle to return a partial plate load to the balance of them. In fact it is so hard, you can get a decent workout trying to match them up. My device stinks and it's going back.

Great once you break them in...

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

These came as part of a set including the stand and a Weider adjustable bench.

Straight out of the package, the weight plates were binding or wouldn't release just as other reviewers have said. It will get you frustrated. But if you exercise some patience they will work and work well.

I ended up finding another reviewer on another site said to oil the metal parts (locking collar & weight plates). He also suggested rearranging the plates for easier switching. The weights worked better the more I broke them in. After about few days worth, they work fantastic.

I gave it 4 stars because they bind at first and it does require some patience. Definitely worth the money spent now.

These weights work great for high speed high intensity workouts. Some times it will grab an extra plate if you don't have it set just right. Overall a very good product. In my opinion these are far superior to the Bowflex product.

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

A previous review hit it on the spot! The weights are not user friendly. They are difficult to get in the holder. The weights do not adjust well and the bar is difficult to replace and remove from the plates. I got this product for Christmas, opened one, and they went back in the box to return. Bowflex is a better product but they are just too expensive.

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

Pros: the stand was easy to assemble and the weight tray fits the selectable dumbbell easily during the first install. The grip works well and the dumbbells work great at 50 lb without adjustment. (Defeats the purpose though)Cons: Weight plates bind during switching weight settings so the handle won't go into place on tray. Didn't make it through a single workout.Very disappointed with how awful this product is. I tried a floor model of this [...] and it worked perfectly. I tried it with every weight setting. Yet the one I got shipped to me only looked the same. The weights bound after the first time using it. It took 5-10 minutes to get it back into the tray after selecting 15 lb. I tried for 35 lb and had the same problem.I tried the dumbbells on the angled stand and floor, but returning the weights to the tray were impossible without adjusting the plates each time. I will bring it back to the store for credit and look at either the Bowflex one or individual dumbbells w/rack. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

Excellent if your smarter than a dumbell
By muscle man from York, PA on 12/23/2007

Accurate Weight, Compact Design

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

Went to the store to buy the bowflex weights. I tuned the dial to the max. When I picked up the first one only half of the plates were attatched, then I picked up the other one and a plate fell off almost smashing my toe. Tried these out & took 'em home with me. If you take 10 min to familiarize yourself with how they work you'll have no problems breezing through your workout. You just need to be smarter than a dumbell.

I was in the market for adjustable dumbbells for about a year. I liked the Bowflex but they were expensive. [...] They look great and look like they would work well, however it is extremely difficult to switch weights which is the whole point! They get stuck and are not able to grasp the correct weight. I have since returned them and bought the Bowflex 552 adjustable dumbbells and i am EXTREMELY happy with them. They are way better and the price has come down. [...]

Comments about Weider Weider Tech POWERSWITCH 100 Dumbbells & Stand!:

These weights weren't worth the trip to the store. They didn't adjust weight easy at all, in fact it was frustrating. The weight plates don't want to go back into place. The adjuster-slider was very temperamental to move in place. I can't see working out effectively with a product that will have you so frustrated wasting your time just trying to adjust them, as they are designed/intended.
