My husband and I bought this tent to go camping together, and since neither of us had been camping for years, we needed new equipment. It was perfect for us. We ended up not getting to our camp site till dusk, and ended up putting the tent up mostly in the dark--its easy construction was no problem, although once the rain fly was up there was no real instruction on how to tie it down, we just had to do what we thought best. It was tight, worked well--woke up to major rain and thunderstorm second day, no water in the tent at all and though the rain and wind kept up through the day,the tent was sturdy, dry and never worried me. The floor was sturdy too, as setting the tent up in the near dark, we never realized how many rocks and sticks we set the tent up in--even though we felt them when we slept (lol) no tears or rips in the floor. The tent size was great, it was just the two of us and we had plenty of room for all our gear and sleeping space. There were only two downsides to the tent--it got cold at night because the sides are just mesh covered by the rain flap--we had it out the second week of septemer, probably couldnt have gone much later unless we camped in a warmer climate. Also, the door; it needs an overhaul I think. Being in the corner made it a little difficult to get in and out--and the extra flap did keep getting caught, it makes it look nice, but it is a pain. Overall though, if I had the choice to do it again, I would still definitely buy this tent.

The easiest tent I've ever put up. Very water tight. I put the hose to it for over an hour to make sure. Not much headroom though and It's pretty brittle. This is the 3rd tent of the summer and so far is the best.

I was in the market for a new larger tent and came across the Vela one day while at Dicks. Having known the Coleman name for so many years and seeing such a resonable price, I bought the Vela after only looking at the packaging without any further review of the product. This was my first mistake. Immediately upon returning home I began to set the new tent up. The ease of setup is what you would expect of a shock-corded system taking only one person to set this up. The second mistake I made is that without reviewing the tent online I could'nt have known from the packaging alone that this is only a one season tent, Summer. For ventilation 3/4 of the side panels are mesh all the way to the peak without any way to close it up like you would find for a typical tent window. The third mistake is I assumed that the two shock-cords would provide enough stability for the tent. The tent did alright enough in low winds in my backyard, but if ever a strong storm came through my campground I would seriously question weather or not this tent would hold its own. I returned the tent the following day and found another Coleman tent that suited my needs and put my mind at ease.

We haven't been camping for years so we purchased the Coleman Vela tent! While on our 2 night stay we enjoyed the tent very much. On the last night at the campground we got a dangerous thunder/lightening storm come through...3 times!!! I will admit I was scared but you know what...the tent didn't leak. While leaving the next day we were informed that we received 3 inches of rain and the only teeny tiny bit of water we got in the tent was a few drop by the door!!! We were sooooo impressed! I would very highly recommend this tent to anyone, we love it!!

This tent is not good on cooler nights. There are only window screens and the only thing that covers them is the rain fly. I bought it brand new and the window screens had small holes in them. The floor of the tent is not durable and did not stand up to small stones causing puntures. There is some random flap around the main door of the tent that seems to serve no purpose except causing the zipper to get caught in it almost everytime I zipped it.

Found one set up in store, liked it and purchased it for a 2-week camping trip. Easy for 2 person set-up; plenty of room for queen size air mattress and gear; ground wasn’t completely flat and had some rocks but they didn’t poke through the flooring; didn't think much of rain-fly until we had a heavy blowing rain one day and the tent stood up to the wind and rain. I really loved the ventilation in the tent when it was hot and muggy but needed some light blankets when temperature dropped for a couple of nights. Overall really pleased with the tent, its construction, utility and ease of use.

This tent is great...I was a little leary about tents cause I heard they leak. I set this tent up in my back yard for about 1 1/2 weeks to test the tent. During that time it rained about 5 times and 3 were a really heavy storm with lots of wind. I went out to check the tent after the rain storms and not a drip inside the tent. Im going back to buy another coleman tent for my kids to take with us camping today!

This tent is wonderful....until the wind blows. It is easy to set up, looks nice, is nice and roomy, and overall is comfortable. Then when the wind blows, it literally flattens out. Using the guidelines on the rainfly helps, but even then a good gust of wind will turn the tent into a pancake. We returned it to the store after one trip. I didn't feel safe in it because it was so flimsy.

Bought this tent to replace a smaller one. I wanted one that I could stand in and have extra room. The tent went up quickly and stayed dry inside with a heavy rain. The only con I found is that the side vents are only covered by the rain fly. You cannot zipper them closed. On a cold night all that cold air would just seep in. Overall a good tent for the money.

Just bought it for this past weekend. This tent was great. We found it very roomy. We loved the fact that we could stand up in it. It rained during our first day of camping and a bit in the morning and our tent remained dry inside. The nice colour of the tent, the windows and side vents kept the tent nice and cool during the day. Easy set up and take down. For the price, this tent is a great buy.

Comments about Coleman Coleman Vela 12' x 11' Dome Tent *** Dicks Sporting Goods Exclusive ***:

We purchased this tent to be used for a camping outing for my family of three (two adults and a toddler). The tent has spacious floorspace and had ample room for our queen-sized air mattress and storage of all of our gear.

We staked our tent in sandy soil on one of NC's barrier islands where there is always a bit of wind. This tent is NOT good for direct wind impact. The two-pole construction is too simple for windy conditions and without the support of the rain fly you can forget about it staying upright. We had to gather other campers to help hold ours upright while we got the fly lines staked - only then would it stop tilting to the ground.

Also, because we had the fortune to test our tent in less than ideal conditions (i.e. wind) we discovered that friction caused by the swaying of the tent when the wind is up may cause several fabric components to tear.

All in all, if the tent had a more sturdy base it would be a super buy for use on the coast.

Comments about Coleman Coleman Vela 12' x 11' Dome Tent *** Dicks Sporting Goods Exclusive ***:

It's easy to set up , a two pole design which took my wife and I ten minutes. The fly has a short ridge pole which sits atop the two cross poles and has to be held in place by six guy lines , which you must stake into the ground, altogether it take 12 stakes to lay out. It's roomy and vents well, but we never got the side walls really tight , because there's just not enough lift tension from the two poles. The interior walls slope inward to the center so you lose about a foot of usable space along all four walls. the fly doesn't cover the front door well and the door is awkward, having to be unzipped from the bottom up.Still , it has a lot space, a minimalist design is inexpensive and good for week end car camping. We got ours for [$] We only plan to use it 4-5 times a year so it seems like a good buy

Went to get a Eureka, but my wife saw this (Vela) setup on the store floor. After we sat on chairs inside the demo for a few minutes we decided that more space per dollar made sense. We took it home and set it up to let the kids try it out. As luck would have it we had a big rain storm. No leaks, and the wind was kept out. Plenty of room to stand up, or have dinner at a table. I like how the door isn't centered, which makes more useful space inside. The power port makes it easier to get electric inside. Well constructed.

Good quality at a good price.
